The
Beaches (or The Beach) is one of the most famous neighbourhoods in Toronto.
Situated along Lake Ontario east of downtown, residents have the advantage
of having a community-like feel to the area plus access to a 3-kilometer
long boardwalk that winds alongside the shore.
Queen Street East is the
centre of the community with lots of eclectic retail stores,
restaurants and coffee shops with patios and parks. Each summer several
music festivals are held in the area. The big one is the Jazz Festival
in July where they close off the entire street and bands are playing
on every second corner for three evenings plus Saturday and Sunday afternoon
in Kew Beach park.
There is a great mix of housing
styles in the Beaches
from 1920s era semi and detached homes
to newer infill houses that have replaced the original Beach cottages.
Condos have spouted up at both ends of Queen Street and along Kingston
Road providing some less expensive housing stock to the neighbourhood.
